An Acupuncturist for Everyone

from: Get A Better Life Today

Just as with most kinds of treatment, there is a broad range of ways acupuncture can be preformed. Your acupuncturist probably is proficient in all techniques, but also probably specializes in a single kind of acupuncture. Not every type of acupuncture is right for every person or every condition. To learn about the different types of acupuncture in great detail, speak with a professional or research the topics further.

By learning about the different techniques for needle insertion, you and your acupuncturist can choose the best approach for you. Acupuncture is a helpful treatment that can be used for stomach aches, migraines, arthritis, infertility, back pain, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, depression, and just about any other illness or pain you can think of, if the correct kind of acupuncture is used.

When most people think of acupuncture, they imagine TCM acupuncture, or Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture. This may involve lying on your stomach for the procedure or sitting on a comfortable chair or in a specific position. Needles only slightly thicker than hairs are inserted into the body in multiple spots, called meridians, in order to help the energy flow of the body, called qi. Although most popular in the world overall and certainly within the United States, TCM acupuncture is not the only technique that can help you rid your body of bad energy flow.

Japanese acupuncturists have a slightly varied technique. While they still use the same spots on the bodies, if you receive treatment from someone trained in the Japanese style of acupuncture, you will notice small differences in your session. Japanese acupuncture tends to be less rigorous and less intrusive on the body. They use thinner or shorter needles many times. Japanese acupuncture also uses fewer needles in general.

Another technique is Korean hand acupuncture. This type of acupuncture is good for people who cannot lay on their stomachs or sit upright for a long period of time. It is also a good way to begin acupuncture if the methods are at first a bit scary to you. Korean hand acupuncture does not only target problems with the hands and fingers, such as arthritis. Rather, points on the hand correspond with parts of the body or body systems in general. Learning these many points is an art, and so Korean hand acupuncturists are highly skilled professionals.

Another form of acupuncture that can be done in one bodily location for those who cannot have needles placed at all points on the body is called auricircular acupuncture. In this case, the needles are mainly places around the ear. This is used very successfully is drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs.

It is important to find an acupuncture style that meets your specific needs. Acupuncturists themselves vary in their techniques, so before paying for a number of sessions with an acupuncturist you do not know, it is essential to make sure his or her techniques are good for your situation.
